Ebola Scare in Anambra, Government Seals Hospital
A hospital has been sealed off and its workers and patients quarantined due to an Ebola disease scare in Anambra State today.
According to the Anambra Commissioner of Health, Josephat Akabuike, the measure followed information received by the government that a man whose body was brought back from Liberia at the weekend, might have died of the killer disease. He said that information available to the government indicated that the body was brought back from Liberia through Lagos and deposited in the mortuary at Nkwelle-Ezenaka in Oyi Local Government of the state.
“Part of the briefing is to tell you what we are doing to make sure we don’t allow the deadly virus to come into the state. What actually called for this is that we have a report that a corpse was brought through Lagos and the deceased was said to have been taken from Liberia where of course you know there are cases of the disease.
The corpse was said to have been brought to Nigeria and deposited somewhere in Nkwelle-Ezunaka and the ministry was alerted and that is why we are taking all these measures.”
The commissioner said that Governor Willie Obiano had already directed the Police Command in the state to cordon off the place until the necessary tests were carried out. He further said that Federal Government had also sent medical experts from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, to Anambra to carry out the test at the hospital premises.

Jim Iyke left Liberia yesterday for Nigeria over Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the country.
Following the actor’s return, some Nigerians, who are following him on Twitter, have wondered if he was tested before admission into the country.
Twitter user @Avariberry posted a message reading: “Jim Iyke or Not… he gotta be screened. #TestJimIyke.”
Meanwhile @IcallDibbz_ said: “Please ooo, James Ikechukwu, aka Jim Iyke, should be quarantined.”

A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, who resides on Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos is now battling for life after his scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.
According to reports, Yinka was attacked while sleeping in his room with his family members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola, the children of the landlady.
She said, “On Thursday morning, around 3am, while we were sleeping, we heard loud bangs on our door. We initially thought they were armed robbers because the house beside ours had recently been robbed.
“When they entered, we saw they were children of our landlady. They began destroying our electronics and other property.
“There were two of them. One held a knife in his hand. They took N800, 000. They descended on my husband and he also fought back. In that confusion, my husband shouted and we saw that one of the attackers had cut Yinka’s scrotum. I can’t say what they used to cut off my husband’s scrotum.”
“I was asked to leave the house immediately, but after the intervention of the traditional ruler of the community, I was asked to leave by the end of August.
“But that decision did not go down well with the children of my landlady and they continued to make trouble with me.
“I was already planning to leave their house and had even contacted an agent when they attacked me without any provocation. I want the government to fight for me,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident, saying “It was around 3am, while the victim was sleeping in his room, that one Solomon Olowogbemi and Damilola Olayeye, the children of his landlady, came in and started fighting with him.
“In the process, they inflicted injury on him with an unknown object. The skin of his scrotum was partly cut off, thereby exposing one of his testicles. The two suspects have been arrested and detained and the victim taken to a hospital.”

It has been revealed by a top official at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Lagos, that a man who helped the late Liberian Ebola victim Patrick Sawyer, on the Monrovia-Lome, and Lome-Lagos flight may have been infected with the deadly virus.
Punch and The Sun report that although it has not been concluded that the man has Ebola, he is showing feverish signs similar to that of the virus.
“We are still investigating and monitoring those who had first contact with Sawyer. One of the people who helped him off the plane is showing signs of fever, a symptom of Ebola. We have isolated them and we are carrying out various tests to establish if it is Ebola or not.”, the source said.
Dr. Yewande Adeshina, the Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Public Health, denied the reports.”No one is sick. We are doing a routine surveillance at the centre now and I can tell you that no one is sick or showing symptoms. We are just monitoring them because we are going by the World Health Organisation’s guidelines of prevention, treatment and management.” she said.
The Lagos State Government on Monday said 59 people came in contact with the 40-year-old Liberian who died of Ebola virus on July 25.
CNN is also reporting that the Peace Corps as well as other agencies revealed that its 340 volunteers in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea will exit the country because of the outbreak.
It was not specified when they may return.
All schools in Liberia have also been shut down according to BBC.

The young African woman first saluted the statue of the former president, who is revered for his role in defeating the racist apartheid system, before disrobing, witnesses said.
A picture posted on Twitter showed her Un.clad and leaning her head against the knee of the statue in an upmarket area of South Africa’s commercial capital.
A waitress at a nearby restaurant told The Star newspaper that the woman’s actions, at around 4.00pm on a busy Monday, had caused a frenzy.
Male waiters got their orders wrong and a male customer was hit on the head by his wife for getting up to take a closer look, she said.
